Arbusto, podendo crescer entre 1 a 8 metros. Flor entre abril e agosto e fruto de agosto a novembro. É apícola. As flores atraem aves e o néctar atrai macaco-prego. É invasora, sombreando o pasto e rebrota após fogo.
